Matthew
R. Whitler is a member of Martin & Seibert, L.C.'s litigation defense
department. He limits his practice to insurance defense matters.
Most recently, Mr. Whitler worked in Winston-Salem, North Carolina
at the law firm of Hartsoe and Associates where he practiced civil
litigation defense for insurance corporations. Mr. Whitler's legal
career also includes time spent at the law offices of Calwell &
McCormick in Charleston, West Virginia and Wallace & Graham in Salisbury,
North Carolina. While at both firms, his practice was based largely
in the area of worker's compensation.
Mr. Whitler is from Charleston, WV and attended West Virginia University
for both his undergraduate and legal education. He was accepted
into the Honor's Program during his undergraduate studies, and graduated
with a degree in International Studies in 1994. He received his
J.D. from the WVU College of Law in 1997. Mr. Whitler clerked at
a firm in Charleston after his first year of law school, and worked
for the Litigation Unit of the Worker's Compensation Division of
West Virginia after his second year. He was also the president of
the Labor and Employment Law Division of the WVU Law School.
Mr. Whitler is admitted to practice in West Virginia, North Carolina,
South Carolina, the Southern District Court of West Virginia, and
the U.S. District Courts in the Eastern and Middle Districts of
North Carolina.
